Common questions

Does my journal leave my device?

Your entries and the Mirror's reflections sync across your devices through your own private iCloud, encrypted under your Apple ID. KSQ Studios runs no servers and never receives a copy. The reflections are generated on your device, so the words you write are not sent anywhere to be read.

What is the Mirror, and what does it need?

When you finish writing, the Mirror offers a single short reflection on what you wrote. It is meant as a witness to your day, not a coach: it does not advise or score you. The Mirror runs on your device using Apple Intelligence, so it needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence with the feature turned on in iOS Settings. On a device without it, the rest of Vesperine works as usual and only the reflection is unavailable.

What is Looking back?

Looking back gathers a few passages from a stretch of your writing, either the past week or the current season, and sets them in front of you. It does not summarise them, score them, or tell you what they meant. Every line it shows is one you wrote, returned exactly as you wrote it. It needs a few entries in the span before there is anything to gather, and like the Mirror it reads on your device.

Is there someone I can talk to?

Yes. A quiet line at the foot of every page offers someone to talk to, any hour: 988 by call or text in the US, and findahelpline.com everywhere else. It is the same on every night and never changes with what you write. If an entry says plainly that you are thinking about ending your life or hurting yourself, the Mirror will not reflect on it. Vesperine shows a short message and the same support instead. That check happens on your device, and nothing about it is recorded anywhere but beside the entry, in your own iCloud.

Does Vesperine work on iPhone Duo?

Yes. Unfold it in landscape and Tonight opens into a spread, with the page you are writing on the left and your recent nights on the right.

Why are there no streaks?

Vesperine is built on the premise that the writing is the point, not the count. There are no streaks, no daily goals, and no reminders that scold. A missed night is just a night. The Archive gathers what you have written, and that is the most aggregation Vesperine does.

Do I need a subscription?

No. Writing your evening entry, the daily reminder, the Archive and search, and your first reflection are free. Vesperine Pro, an optional subscription, unlocks a reflection every evening and Looking back. The current pricing is shown on the App Store listing.

How do I move my data to a new phone?

Sign in to the same Apple ID on the new iPhone and your entries sync down through your private iCloud. There is no manual export and no separate sign-in within Vesperine.

Can I delete my data?

You can delete any single entry from within Vesperine, and the deletion syncs to your other devices through iCloud. To remove everything, delete your entries and then uninstall the app. Because your data lives in your own private iCloud rather than on any server of ours, you can also manage and clear it from iOS Settings, under your name, then iCloud.
